For the past 25 years I have worked in the NHS.  My journey started in Birmingham working as a Mental Health Nurse in an in-patient setting with mothers suffering from post partum mental health issues; post natal depression and psychosis.  From there, I moved into more generic adult mental health care settings.  My nursing role primarily involved assessing and treating the psychological needs of working aged adults, (16 - 65), who had a diagnosis of schizophrenia, bi polar disorder, personality disorder or depression.  The development of trusting, open and compassionate relationships with people was integral in achieving the outcome of behavioural and psychological change.  Clinical formulations were based on cognitive and systemic theory, families were involved in process' in most instances.

My interest in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy developed and I graduated from the University of Birmingham with a Post Graduate Diploma in CBT in 2013.  I moved into Improving Access to Psychological  Therapy Services, (IAPT), and gained experience working with working age adults struggling with low mood, depression, anxiety disorders, low self esteem/confidence, relationship issues: (inter and intra personal) using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.  My special interest is in PTSD and trauma work.

Since launching CBT For You, I have gained knowledge and experience of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).  ACT is a step forward from more the traditional CBT model.  ACT emphasises the importance of finding direction in our lives by being explicit about what is truly meaningful to us.  ACT promotes an understanding of why we are struggling with difficult emotions and how implementing change can ease our fear and pain.  Developing psychological flexibility is a key component of ACT.

My focus has always been to work with clients to establish realistic goals and to deliver person centred, individualised therapy.  I offer a caring, safe, supportive and confidential space to talk.

"we cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them"
-Albert Einstein

I believe building resilience is an essential component of CBT and recovery.
